06:50 am: Reasonable Restrictions
For the record, there is no such thing as a reasonable restriction on rights when it is imposed by the government. Reasonable restrictions are those imposed upon oneself by duty and responsibility. Only individuals can be responsible, a government can not be.

I fully support the right of citizens to own any weapon up to and including "nukes", "for all lawful purposes"*

A friend of mine once told me I was in favor of doing away with rule of law and reverting to rule of force. My contention is we don't _have_ rule of law now. We have rule of force, and the government is trying very hard to make sure they have a monopoly on force. That was precisely the concern which prompted the founders to write:

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

That is manifestly about making sure the people have the tools to remove an oppressive government.

*Such as overthrowing a government which has ceased to be "of, by and for the people".
